Norwich City’s 3-1 victory against West Ham United propelled them to the 15th spot of the Premier League standings claiming their 3rd win of this season. The head coach Chris Hughton said that the club has to build on their latest win and forget about the past disappointing results.

Manchester City hosted Norwich City at the Etihad Stadium and the team of Manuel Pellegrini overcame Norwich with a resounding 7-0 victory but Hughton believes that his side should just focus on the upcoming matches and spoke about their match against West Ham.

Hughton told Sky Sports: “We got a very good reaction from the players in the second half, we were more urgent and put West Ham on the back foot.

“What we have said to the players after the game is we have to build on this. We had a similar thing last season, when we didn’t start so well but then won against Arsenal and it was a spring forward.

“There’s a feel-good factor at the moment and it’s nice to go into the international break with a win.”

They were hit with a big blow when Anthony Pilkington picked up an injury during Norwich’s last match that will leave him unable to play Republic of Ireland’s next match and in doubts for his club.

Norwich fell behind in the 1st half after Morrison gave West Ham the lead at the 32nd minute but the home team recovered after the break and blasted 3 goals that gave them the victory and the important 3 points that keeps them away from the last bottom spots of the Premier League as they want to keep the momentum going for the rest of the campaign.

HUGHTON LOSES OUT

Chris Hughton’s Norwich City suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham at White Hart Lane during the weekend. It was a match that was very one-sided because Tottenham dominated the entire encounter in all areas of the pitch. They had a remarkable 70% possession, while also creating a lot of chances as well. Hughton could only praised his opposition after the match because they were extremely brilliant. Tottenham came into the match on the back of the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in the previous encounter. This was a very difficult defeat for Andre Villas-Boas because he paraded a number of his new signings.

Tottenham have spent more than £ 100 million in this transfer window, although they have recovered most of the money following the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. Despite the new signings, it was Gylfi Sigurdsson who managed to take the plaudits with two goals. He scored on a visit of the break to give Tottenham all three points. Hughton, though, reckons that it was largely down to the second goal in the 49th minute that his team were unable to come back into the match. It was very difficult to motivate the players after conceding so early in the second half.

Hughton will be hoping that his players recover soon for the visit of Aston Villa.

“They have got an awful lot of quality on the pitch. There are no complaints with the result. We needed to get a foothold in the game for longer periods, but we were up against a very impressive Tottenham team. We had better spells in the second half and we threatened more, so it was one that really hurt us. It is always going to be very difficult coming here, but it wasn’t to be and we need to dust ourselves down and be better next week,” said Hughton.

It’s probably not unfair to say that Jose Mourinho divides opinion. The controversial manager is known for some rather confident press conferences in which he is famous for providing a “special” quote each time. Love him or hate him, you can’t fault his managerial record.

Having started out as an interpreter at Barcelona, Mourinho moved into management in his native Portugal before success in the Champions League with FC Porto opened doors for him.

A move to Chelsea immediately followed, as did domestic success as the self-proclaimed “Special One” began to make a name for himself. After leaving the Bridge in 2008 he went on to win a second Champions League winners’ medal, this time with Inter Milan. After a mixed spell in Italy, Mourinho moved into the hot seat at Real Madrid and helped the club to numerous domestic titles.

OLSSON JOINS

OLSSON JOINS

Norwich city recently managed to bring in the highly rated Martin Olsson from Blackburn Rovers. The 25-year-old has been linked with several clubs in England including those in the upper echelons of the Premier league table. The defender has been signed from Blackburn for £ 2.5 million. He stayed with the Lancashire club for one season in the effort to get them back into the Premier league. However, Blackburn were unable to put up any title challenge in the Championship and will be spending another season in the second division of English football as a result of it.

Olsson has said that the presence of former Newcastle United and Tottenham assistant manager is Hughton was crucial in him coming to Norwich city. Norwich only recently came back into the Premier league under the management of Paul Lambert, who left for Aston Villa at the start of last season. Hughton, who was appointed as his replacement, managed to help the club finish in a comfortable place in the Premier league. They have spent heavily over the course of the summer in order to preserve their Premier league status and Olsson is one of the big-name rivals.

Olsson has been playing for Blackburn for the last seven years and this is his first major move.

“My dream was always to play in the Premier League again. I went down into the Championship and it was a good lesson for me as well. I learned a lot of things. But I’m at a new club now, so I’m looking forward to being with the players and enjoying my time here. I had a few other clubs interested but I think Chris gave me a good idea of how he wanted to play and the ambition of this club,” said the 25-year-old defender after sealing his move to Norwich.

STAYING UP

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton has said that he is looking forward to establishing the club as one of the regular fixtures in the Premier league. Norwich were recently promoted to the Premier league under the management of Paul Lambert. However, the second season in the English top division appeared to be a struggle for Norwich after Lambert left the club at the start of the season. The arrival of Chris Hughton, who has done a good job with the likes of Newcastle and Birmingham in the past, has worked in favour of the club.

Norwich struggled with the threat of relegation only in the last few weeks of the campaign, but even that was eroded following the 3-2 win over Manchester City on the final day of the season. This victory helped the club bounce from the 16th position in the table to an 11th place. They have also managed to secure the £ 4 million prize money as a result of this huge bump up. Hughton has said that he does not want to have any threat of relegation next season. He wants Norwich to be a regular Premier league club as the likes of Sunderland and Stoke City have become over the years.

“There were some really good stats this season. The facts are we had 10 clean sheets and in addition to that out of 38 games, we had 22 we either drew or lost by the odd goal. Those aspects we got right. What we needed to address is getting those additional goals that turn draws into wins and those defeats into draws and we found it difficult,” said Hughton. He is prepared to enter into the transfer market in order to strengthen the team. He reckons that the next season will be even tougher than the current one.

INJURIES COST BLACKBURN

INJURIES COST BLACKBURN

After losing in the FA Cup quarter-final against Millwall, the Blackburn Rovers manager Michael Appleton has said that the team is short on quality due to the injuries and lack of form. Blackburn suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall. The club have the opportunity to play at Wembley in the FA Cup semifinals had they gone through. Now, the team has not only exited the competition, but they also have to face the fans wrath in the final league matches of the campaign. Blackburn have managed just two draws since the 1-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Appleton said at that time that he wants the team to use this amazing victory as a confidence booster and kick on in the campaign. However, they have since lost all but two of their matches. As a result, the team has dropped into the 16th position in the table. Reaching the play-offs positions was one of the targets given to the manager Appleton, but the team are just six points above the relegation zone. The manager has said that he expects results to improve once he gets his first-team players back from injury. The team have to make use of the successive home matches in the league against Burnley and Blackpool in order to make up the ground.

“We are certainly lacking on numbers and we’re certainly lacking on quality at the minute. From a confidence point of view the boys are struggling a little but I think you can use that as an excuse. The whole mentality of the football club – in terms of taking it really personal and wanting to do something about it and put it right is really important. A victory against Burnley on Sunday will certainly go a long way to making me feel a lot better than I do and I’m sure it will be the same for the fans as well,” said Appleton.
